Wickenby Memorial Service

THE WICKENBY REGISTER

(12 & 626 Squadrons' Association)

A Service of Remembrance

Conducted by the Reverend Ian S Partridge

(Honorary Chaplain to the Wickenby Register)

ORDER OF SERVICE

The Chaplain shall say:

We are gathered here today in the presence of God, to remember those of our gallant comrades who flew from this airfield with No's 12 and 626 Squadrons during World War II, and the ground staff servicing with them, together with those men and women of other Royal Air Force units based here in peace and war. We would also bring before God those personnel who have served and continue to serve their country throughout the world with No. 12 Squadron since its formation in 1915.

THE LESSON

Read by the Revd Ian S Partridge

The lesson is written in the Fifteenth Chapter of St.John's Gospel

As my Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments and remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you and your joy complete. This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you. A man can have no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command you.

I shall not call you servants any more, because a servant does not know his master's business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learned from my Father.

You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last; and then the Father will give you anything you ask him in my name.

What I command you is to love one another.

The congregation shall sing the hymn:

O LOVE THAT WILT NOT LET ME GO

THE PRAYERS

The chaplain shall say:

Almighty God, we remember with thanksgiving those of our comrades who gave their lives for our freedom. We pray that the offering of their lives may not have been in vain.

Help us today to dedicate ourselves anew to the causes of justice, freedom and peace; and give us the wisdom and strength to work towards a better world, to the glory of your name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The Lords Prayer

Teach us, O Lord, to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do your will. Amen.

The chaplain shall say:

Lord our God, you inspired all who served at this airfield with an unforgettable spirit of friendship and fellowship. We ask that you keep the fire of that spirit alive in our hearts today and always, and that we may leave this place with one will only: to love and serve our neighbours, and through them to love and serve you and your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE BLESSING

God grant to the living, grace; to the departed rest: to the Church, the Queen, the Commonwealth and to all mankind, peace and concord; and to us and all His servants, life everlasting.

And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit be with you and remain with you always.

Amen
