Andy Smith is looking for information on the time his father Wally Smith spent with 12 squadron in the summer of 1943 to expand his web site www.raf-bombercommand.co.uk.
Wally completed his whole first tour in just one Lancaster, ED995 PH-X. Anybody who has a photograph of either the crew or the plane or any relevant information please e mail andy@raf-bombercommand.co.uk.
ED995 was lost on a raid on Hanover 8th October 1943 just 3 days after Wally’s 30th operation. The crew that fateful night were Sgt R A Collins, Sgt W J Adamson, Sgt P M Adams, Sgt S V Watson, Sgt R Mallin, Sgt J Strachin and Sgt P J Bemrose.

Lancaster LL797 UM-B2 and Crew
On 24/25 February 1944 Lancaster LL797 of 626 Squadron was brought down over Marsal France on the way to bomb the industrial plants of Schweinfurt.
A group of us, including relatives of some crewmen, are trying to discover more about LL797, the crew and their final mission. We have already uncovered a fair amount, but we would be very interested if anybody can add any personal memories of three crewmen in particular:
F/O Jack Pierce Hutchinson DFC RAAF (Pilot)
F/O Peter Henry Wilson Young (Air Bomber)
W/O Hector Binder RCAF (Mid Upper Gunner)
The other crewmen buried with them in Marsal are:-
P/O Leonard Goodkey RCAF (Navigator)
Sgt Arthur Hodgson (Flight Engineer)
F/Sgt Ken Macey (Rear Gunner)
Sgt Bob Edgeworth (Wireless Operator)
and Sgt Brian Bowditch (2nd Pilot)
Any information about these men or their Schweinfurt mission, no matter how small or unimportant would be welcome. Please contact us by the email address below, or via Anne Law at the Wickenby Memorial Collection.
Many thanks
Adrian Lee
